Karin G. Hopkins
Autographical Profile
As a television news anchor, Karin cultivated production expertise that served her well in later years when she created impactful documentaries, training films, commercials and digital media content. Her journey eventually led her to entrepreneurship, where she collaborated with her husband, Noah Hopkins, to pursue innovative business ventures.
In New Orleans, Karin spearheaded the communications division of their PR firm, delivering exceptional results for high-profile projects, including the launch of the iconic Essence Music Festival. Under Karin’s leadership, her team executed dynamic PR campaigns that attracted 142,000 attendees to the first Essence Music Festival in 1995. The event generated a staggering $75 million economic boost for New Orleans, transforming the city’s typically slow summer season into a thriving tourist phenomenon.
Karin directed public relations for the festival for seven consecutive years, during which attendance and economic impact consistently increased.
In 2004, Karin and Noah closed their business and relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where she served as Senior Public Information Officer for the Birmingham City Council for five years. By 2009, her expertise led her to a pivotal role as Communications Director for the President Pro Tempore of the Alabama Senate. In this capacity, she managed critical communications efforts, including serving as a liaison to The White House.
Throughout her career, storytelling has been the cornerstone of Karin’s success, enabling her to connect with audiences on profound levels. In 2020, amidst a global pandemic, heightened social unrest and an extraordinary presidential election, storytelling became her refuge from the chaos. From this period emerged a labor of love and reflection titled, “The NEXUS Days; The Golden Era of Black Nightlife in New Orleans”. In 2024, she wrote RAW: Stripped Naked with Only the Truth for Cover, chronicling her personal journey of struggles, resilience and triumph.
